The American Medical Association has identified obesity as the fastest-growing health problem in the U.S., and one of the most serious chronic conditions with an estimated 64 percent of the adult population being overweight or obese. This presentation will discuss obesity prevalence, facility preparedness, and clinical risks for the obese patient. We will demonstrate the importance of health care team education and sensitivity training in caring for and communicating with the obese patient. Unique risks for small and rural organizations including staffing, equipment, and transportation capabilities will be discussed. The clinical risks of an obese obstetrical patient will be presented.
As a result of this presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Ascertain skills to communicate effectively in a sensitive manner and to enhance the overall care experience for obese patients.
2. Identify preparations required by a health care facility to provide care to obese patients.
3. Determine clinical risks associated with providing medical care to obese patients.
What is a Webinar?
Webinars are live, interactive Web-based seminars that allow participants to view materials over the Internet and access the audio by dialing a toll-free number. Participants will have the opportunity to pose questions to the expert faculty. Handout materials will be provided, so participants can also listen via the telephone only.
Webinars are an inexpensive and logistically simple way for health care providers and executives to hear national speakers and content experts address hot topics in patient safety, clinical risk reduction, regulatory and accreditation issues, and general liability trends.
Registrants will receive a confirmation e-mail with connection information and instructions to download the handout materials approximately one week prior to the program.
If you are unable to attend a conference, the audio portion of each webinar is available on a compact disk for you to purchase. CDs come with handout materials. For one flat rate, our CDs can assist in educating an unlimited number of staff to keep your organization running safely and efficiently.
The Risk Management and Patient Safety Institute wishes to take reasonable steps to ensure that no individual who is physically challenged is discriminated against because of the absence of auxiliary aids and services.
