Program Description
The American Medical Association has identified obesity as the fastest growing health problem in the U.S., and one of the most serious chronic conditions with an estimated 64 percent of the adult population being overweight or obese. This presentation will discuss obesity prevalence, facility preparedness, and clinical risks for the obese patient. We will demonstrate the importance of health care team education and sensitivity training in caring for and communicating with the obese patient. Unique risks for small and rural organizations including staffing, equipment, and transportation capabilities will be discussed. The clinical risks of an obese obstetrical patient will be presented.

As a result of this presentation, participants will be able to:
  • Ascertain skills to communicate effectively in a sensitive manner and to enhance the overall care experience for obese patients.
  • Identify preparations required by a health care facility to provide care to obese patients.
  • Determine clinical risks associated with providing medical care to obese patients.

What is a Webinar-on-Demand?
