Breakdown in communication has been cited by the Joint Commission as a consistent root cause of medical error. It has also been cited as the most frequent and basic reason that patients and families choose to pursue litigation for medical malpractice.
This program will explore the building blocks of effective communication. It will provide an understanding of the barriers to effective communication and practical strategies to address these barriers, including strategies to minimize the impact of medical illiteracy. The program also touches on strategies for communication with difficult patients and families.
